Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1. What ages or grade levels do you work with?
We provide literacy therapy for students in second grade through adulthood, including high school students and adults who want to strengthen reading and writing skills.
2. What types of reading challenges do you support?
We work with students who have dyslexia, persistent reading difficulties, or challenges with spelling and written language. Therapy is individualized and tailored to each student’s strengths and areas for growth.
3. What is the approach to instruction?
All instruction is science-based and structured, using research-proven strategies to build foundational reading skills, fluency, comprehension, and written language. Instruction is explicit, systematic, and responsive to each student’s progress.
4. How are sessions scheduled?
Sessions are typically 1 hour each, four days per week. Students may participate in one-on-one sessions or small group sessions, depending on their needs and goals. Consistency is important to support steady progress.
5. What is the difference between 1:1 and small group therapy?
1:1 Therapy: Provides fully individualized instruction, immediate feedback, and targeted pacing.
Small Group Therapy: Offers structured instruction in a supportive peer setting, with opportunities to practice skills collaboratively while still receiving personal attention.
6. Do you provide support for IEPs?
Yes. I offer IEP support services, which may include reviewing reading-related goals, understanding assessment results, and helping families align therapy with school-based instruction. This is consultative and instructional and does not replace school-provided services.
7. How is progress monitored?
Progress is tracked regularly through observation, assessment, and data collection. Families receive updates on skill development, growth over time, and next steps in instruction.
8. How long will my child need therapy?
The length of therapy depends on your child’s specific needs and goals. Some students see progress in a few months, while others benefit from ongoing instruction over the course of a school year or longer. Progress is monitored, and the plan is adjusted as skills develop.
9. How do I get started?
The first step is an initial consultation, where we discuss your child’s reading history, goals, and needs. From there, we determine the best approach, schedule, and services.
